tumblr, cheerios, census, advertising

Sometimes people do great things with technology. Photographer Michael David Murphy started a Tumblr of interracial families as a response to that Cheerios commercial.

On the About Page of the site it references the 2008 Census finding that 15% of new marriages were interracial. A number that is growing pretty rapidly over the past 10 years. It’s a pretty heartwarming tribute to family, and can hopefully remove at least one person’s concept of “I vs. other.” I don’t know how anyone could look at all these adorable families and not just think they’re the cutest ever.

Then again if you happen to be one of the people opposed to seeing such joy and love perhaps you’re just getting grumpy and need to eat some Cheerios? I heard they’re good for your heart.

That’s one of the great things about a service like Tumblr, or any Social Media; you can send a message quickly and reach the masses.  We saw it in Egypt, in Turkey, in Russia, people just want to be heard and understood.
